Types of Massage
Swedish Massage is what most people turn to for a relaxing massage. The therapist uses long gliding strokes, kneading, friction and percussion to relax the muscles. Swedish massage is especially useful for improving blood and lymph circulation, decreasing muscle toxins, increasing the elasticity of the tissue, reducing cortisol(stress hormone), and relieving stress and anxiety. Every therapist has their own strengths and style, but please communicate your likes and dislikes at any time during the massage and I will do my best to accommodate your needs.
Deep Tissue Massage
Similar in style to Swedish Massage, but with additional pressure. The firmer touch works into the deeper layers of muscle, tendon and fascia to break up adhesions and increase joint range of motion. Beneficial for clients with chronic muscle tension.
Ashiatsu Deepfeet Massage
This modality is described as the “deepest, most luxurious massage on the planet.” With soft, clean feet the therapist will sweep, swirl and compress the muscle tissue. The feet provide a broad, firm pressure. If you like a very deep massage this is the one for you. The therapist will provide you with a scale to monitor pressure so never feel that this will be too much for you, it can always be tailored to your wishes. An hour long massage usually consists of approximately 40 minutes of Deepfeet therapy and 20 minutes of Swedish or Deep Tissue Massage to ease tension in the neck and shoulders where hands are a better tool.
Trigger Point Therapy
Myofascial trigger points are small hard knots of contraction in a muscle. That contraction restricts blood flow, irritates the muscle and causes it to send out pain signals to other areas of the body, called referred pain. Massaging the trigger point encourages blood flow, stimulates the release of toxins, helps release the contracted muscle fibers and may reduce pain associated with it.
Compression of the trigger point with fingers, elbows or tools may elicit local tenderness or referred pain. Relief may be felt after one session, but may require multiple visits as well.
Hot Stone Massage
Hot stone therapy uses smooth hot stones to melt away tension, ease muscle stiffness and promote deep relaxation. This 90 min treatment begins with traditional Swedish Massage to warm up the muscles and is followed with the therapist massaging while holding the hot stone.
Massage during pregnancy can be a wonderful complement to your prenatal care. It can help to relieve stress, promote general wellness, and relieve the common complaints of pregnancy such as back and hip discomfort. Massage aids in blood and lymph circulation and can help with edema(swelling) of the legs and feet. To ensure your comfort we use bolsters and pillows to keep you in a safe and comfortable position for whatever stage of your pregnancy. If you have a high-risk pregnancy please talk with your doctor or midwife about your wish to receive a massage before scheduling. Safety and comfort is always our goal so please communicate any like or needs regarding your body and the massage.
Help your baby transition to their new world. Infant massage can promote relaxation and sounder sleep, help relieve the discomfort of gas, or soothe the stress of colic. Bond with your child through touch therapy. You will stay in the room with your baby. Either just be there to soothe and provide a calming presence or get hands-on and learn how to translate the massage techniques to your home environment so you can do them yourself.
Maybe your child is older and could benefit from massage therapy. Growing pains, sport related muscle tension or the social and emotional stresses of growing up are all good reasons to turn to massage. Massage can help your child learn to relax and calm themselves in times of stress. Parents are always welcome to stay with their children during the appointment. We just ask that we work together to keep the space as calming and quiet as possible.
